Mental Health & Wellness Walk at The Wrekin: September 2026

Together we Walk and Talk

For generations, Asian women have been the backbone of families, communities, and workplaces. We are often the organisers, caregivers, listeners, problem-solvers, and supporters. We give our time, energy, and attention freely to those around us, often without a second thought.

But when was the last time we gave that same care to ourselves?

As we navigate increasingly busy lives, many women find that their own wellbeing is pushed to the bottom of an ever-growing list of responsibilities. Between careers, raising children, supporting ageing parents, managing households, and meeting the expectations placed upon us by others, taking time for ourselves can feel like a luxury rather than a necessity.

The reality is that self-care is not selfish. It is essential.

This September, AMBER are inviting women from across the Midlands to step away from the pressures of daily life and reconnect with themselves through a Mental Health and Wellness Walk at The Wrekin in Telford on Sunday 13 September 2026 at 4.30pm.

More than just a walk, this event offers an opportunity to slow down, breathe, connect with nature, and spend time with other women who understand the challenges and demands of modern life.

Continuing the Conversation & Walking for a Cause

This year’s walk holds even deeper meaning. During our time together, we will be continuing and following up on the vital discussions sparked at AMBERfest 2026 and our "Together we will Talk" initiatives at the Wrekin. We are taking those conversations out into the fresh air, turning dialogue into supportive community action.

Furthermore, we are proud to announce that this walk is a fundraising event. We are raising vital funds for Cysters, a charity deeply committed to breaking down the systemic barriers that create menstrual, mental, maternal, and menopausal health inequalities.

Like AMBER, Cysters believe that lasting change happens when communities lead the way—and when every story, struggle, and triumph is heard and valued. By joining us, you are not only supporting your own health but also contributing to a movement that champions healthcare equity for all women.

Why Mental Wellbeing Matters

Within many South Asian communities, conversations around mental health have often remained behind closed doors. While awareness is growing, many women continue to carry stress, anxiety, loneliness, and emotional exhaustion in silence.

Whether you are a student facing academic pressures, a professional balancing work and family life, a mother navigating daily demands, a carer supporting loved ones, or someone simply feeling overwhelmed by life’s responsibilities, your wellbeing matters.

Looking after your mental health is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of strength. Recognizing when we need rest, support, or connection is one of the most important forms of self-care we can practise.

The Healing Power of Walking Together

There is something powerful about being outdoors. The simple act of walking can help clear the mind, reduce stress, and improve overall wellbeing. Surrounded by fresh air, open spaces, and beautiful views, we are often able to pause, reflect, and gain perspective in ways that are difficult amidst the noise of everyday life.

The Wellness Walk has been designed to be inclusive and accessible for women of all ages and fitness levels:

  • Choose your path: Participants can choose to walk to the summit of The Wrekin or enjoy a gentler route around the hill.

  • No pressure: There is no competition and no expectation.

  • The focus: We are focusing purely on movement, mindfulness, and meaningful connection.

Sometimes the greatest benefit comes not from reaching the top of a hill, but from sharing conversations along the way.

Building Stronger Communities

Wellbeing is not only about physical health; it is also about belonging. Many women report feeling isolated despite being constantly surrounded by responsibilities and people. Creating spaces where women can meet, share experiences, and support one another is vital for building healthier communities.

Events such as the Wellness Walk provide an opportunity to strengthen friendships, make new connections, and remind ourselves that we are not alone in our challenges. When women come together, powerful things happen. We share stories, offer encouragement, and create spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and heard.

Giving Yourself Permission

Perhaps the most important message behind this event is simple: Give yourself permission.

  • Permission to pause.

  • Permission to prioritise your wellbeing.

  • Permission to spend a few hours focusing on yourself without guilt.

We cannot continue pouring from an empty cup. Looking after ourselves enables us to better support the people we love and the communities we serve.

This September, join the AMBER team and take a step towards better wellbeing, stronger connections, a healthier future, and a wonderful cause. Because sometimes the most important journey is the one that leads us back to ourselves.
